Horizontal offset between shower drain and trap
Author: nculbertyh (SC)

I am installing a new shower. Where I need to locate my shower puts the shower drain directly above a support pier.

However, there is enough room to connect a 90 deg elbow to the drain, run horizontally about 15" and then use another 90 degree elbow to drop down into the shower trap.

Would having the two 90 degree elbows and the short horizontal offset before the trap be a problem?

WI code says 15" total vertical and horizontal before trap..if you can use long turns it would be best...they also make an offset shower strainer which gives you an extra 1" or more.

ive done this when a 2nd floor shower ends up in a 1st floor soffit to get the trap out to prevent freezing.

id try to shift the location of the shower to do it normally first. notch the walls or fur out walls.

The 15" piece of horizontal pipe before the trap will have a tendency to give off odors. Hair, soap scum, etc can build up , decay, and have a bad smell. Since its before the trap theres no water seal to prevent this. If you can use 2 45's that would be much better. They do make offset shower drains but I'm not sure if that would help you , would be worth checking into.
