 How high should the shower valve be installed at?

My plumber installed the shower valve at 30" above the bare concrete floor. I figure once I installed the shower pan and the sloped tiled floor, it would be 26" above my feet. I would have to bend over to turn water on? The one I have at home is at 48" above.

Is there a "norm" or standard height? I did not specify the height in my spec since I thought this is common sense.

Come to think of it I better specify the shower head height too in case he puts it 40" tall.

42" for shower...36" for Tub/Shower but everyone set's um differant.

48" for a shower
15" above the tub for a tub

I normally place the shower valve 48" from the floor.

add me to the 48" above the finish tile floor group. although, 4 feet would also be acceptable. in fact, i wouldn't mind if it was set at 3ft 12in.

When it comes to tub and shower you don't want little hands reaching the fill valve.

Review your local guidelines, but I also hope you never have a person in a wheelchair or walker.... as a showering visitor.

I place them at 48" AFF unless requested to do otherwize

I always set my shower valves at 42".

I set my tub valves at 30", unless it is a taller tub.

Go into the shower and then "reach" for an imaginary shower handle. Wherever your hand is that is the height for you.

So I would ask them to redo it at 48", with shower pan and tiles installed probably be 44" above. Thanks everyone.
