I am bldg a nice, new house. asked builder not to bid with lower end fixtures. now found out that plumber bid with pro flo sinks, toilets, etc and moen chateau faucets as allowances. Are these not lower end products. Should I stay with these or will I have problems down the road?? Is the upgrade worth it? These seem like basic boring fixtures. everything I look at the plummbing house costs more?? confused and looking for advice.

Not sure about Pro-Flo, because we do not have that brand here, but Chateau is the builder grade Moen faucet. However the internal parts are the same for all Moen faucets, the difference is in the trim parts that you see.

Pro Flo is the Ferguson plumbing supply line of material. It is all cheap builders grade stuff. Moen Chateau is also the low end of the Moen product line. Neither product is really bad, it's just you can get much nicer stuff if you want it.

if you plan to "flip" the house, you are buying the right stuff. if you want a quality product, talk to a real plumber.

proflo is low end. Ive found there s.s. kitchen sinks to be nice. Ive heard their toilets are good(they are briggs)...its hard to make a lav. sink badly.....
pro flo is priced the similar to mansfield which everyone uses. If its a starter home these are normal fixtures. if its a higher end house then you should upgrade to kohler wellworth toilet and kohler pennington sinks. they arent that much more and are decent quality.
i wouldnt put proflo fixtures in my house if i had a choice.

I question whether Kohler Wellworth would be an upgrade. Kohler Wellworth is a toilet that I usually end up tweaking after an auger call in an effort to avoid a callback. I look to upgrade customers from them.

Is "allowance" your cost or the cost to the customer? I always state that the allowance will be based on the list/retail price less some percentage, possibly 10%.

Education and knowledge is a very powerful tool. It also applies to plumbing products. You need to visit a professional plumbing showroom to see for yourself. Make the comparison yourself and see the difference between plastic, die-cast and solid brass. Check out the finishes and warranties. Compare the brass stems to the ceramic cartridges. Single handle or dual handle mixers. Check out the electronic faucets as well. And that is just the faucets.
While you are there check out the quality of the tubs, showers, spa tubs, lavatories and toilets.
Do it right the first time and you will never regret it.
Best Wishes

Wheelchair said it best. I have a couple hundred Pro-Flow toilets and lavs installed. These are in hotels. They were installed due to budget and specs. We're talking about thousands of dollars for the owners in savings. I have not had any problems with these fixtures that I have not had with others. I would really suggest you look at the report Redwood has by his signature.

Definitely read the report in my auto signature before buying a toilet! Did you know the worst flushing toilet tested will flush 75 grams of solids per flush and the best will flush 1,000+ grams of solids per flush? Which do you want in your home? My answer would be neither, because the toilets I like are gravity flush models that test in the 8-900 GPF range. Toto Drake, Kohler Cimmeron, and Eljer Titan are my favorites.

one thing for sure..pro-flow doesn't manufacture anything. they go to someone and request that their product be made cheaper so they (pro-flow) can sell for more profit. they NEVER go to someone and ask that their product be made BETTER.
pure flow, pure pro or pro-flow it doesn't matter what they call themselves. they are a contractor grade retailer interested in the bottom line only.
they don't sell quality, they sell quantity.

Low end products - There really is not much difference with china products other than the way they look. Faucets are another matter. Low end is OK, I would not install in my house, but most manufactures are now making all products in China. I would recommend purchasing a set of repair parts now in case they fail in the future and are no longer available.

As a builder, the main phone call I like to avoid is about a toilet clogging. Here we use low gallon toilets, and I can tell you I have never had a call back. In fact I have Pro Flow toilets in my own home with teenagers and a gaggle of teenage friends here all the time. they are fine. Plumbers always start out with entry level faucets, but should also have middle and upper grade packages as well. My personal pref is Vestige or the new one, AVA. Good luck!

I just moved into a new house that was re-built from the foundation up earlier this year after an electrical fire, & they installed Pro-Flo toilets in both of the bathrooms here. In my opinion, they are very nice toilets! They never plug up, ever, which is SUPER nice because we just moved from an apartment complex that had really crappy toilets (no pun intended) that would ALWAYS plug up constantly at the drop of a hat. When going #2 in those toilets, you'd literally have to flush after every nugget, big or small, which is a HUGE waste of water. So coming here to this house & getting to Pro-Flo toilets, they're a complete 180 & they work great. Since we didn't buy them, I don't know how much they cost, but from reading different forums, it seems like people say they're fairly inexpensive, but to me (& my family) they seem to work very well & definitely worth the money & definitely don't work like a cheap toilet. A cheap toilet would be the ones at that apartment complex (and it wasn't just that one apartment because we started out in a 2-bedroom & moved to a 3-bedroom in the same neighbourhood & they were all the same). I know we have the elongated bowl but don't know the exact model number. I don't know if we have ProFlo faucets or anything either. But I just wanted to say that even though some have said the toilets may be on the "lower quality" end, they definitely wouldn't seem like it when you are using them. Unless you're concerned about having a ton of special options like low & high flow for using one for #1 & one for #2 or all those crazy options like warm seats, vibrating seats, spray, mist, etc, & you're just looking for a regular, basic toilet, I'd definitely highly suggest this toilet for anyone in the market shopping for toilets for their home or even their business. Hope that helps!! :] Have a nice day!

I've been plumbing for over 25 years now and also a certified ICC commercial plumbing inspector,, i would not recommend any PROFLO products!! they are very cheaply made and will not last very long. Trust me,, spend the extra money and buy KHOLER,DELTA,ELJIER,or TOTO products.. you'll be glad you did
