Noticed small amount of black grit in toilet, opened tank cover and about freaked, the entire tank is black, checked other toilet and its black, pulled shower head off and the inside of the waterpic shower head and hose is black… it does wipe out… other then seeing a little grit in the toilet there is no sign of black in the water, sinks or tubs... WHAT CAN THIS BE CAUSED FROM AND WHAT STEPS SHOULD I TAKE TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AND FIXED thanks for any help or any advice you can give on this… cc

I had a bachelor freind once, who lived in a small travel trailer he wasn't there much I suspect it got quite warm all shut up and not used much, when he was there. did I mention he was a bachelor lol (there not known for cleaning) and his toilet was all black inside....nasty looking; No one else around him had the same problem although all had the same city water.

Clean it up as you would any toilet and hope that's all it needs. clean the tank inside as well, try diferent cleaners see what works.

Or

Ask your neighbors if they noticed anything like it or contact your local water purveyor

Do not use In tank bowl cleaners. Most contain chlorine which will deteriorate rubber seals and flappers used in the toilet tank. Most new toilets state using in tank bowl cleaners will void your guarantee.
