single handle shower faucet - hot and cold reversed
Author: T.V. (CA)

My recently installed, Moen, single handled shower/tub faucet has the hot and cold reversed from where they should be. Is there a mechanism inside the faucet that would enable the hot and cold to be changed to where it should be, without having to replumb the pipes in the wall?

Try that with a Symmons. One of the main reasons we switched to Delta and Moen.Delta's come out with a new system...one valve....3 options,1)Pressure balance,2)Pressure bal w/temp control. 3)Temp balance.A great way to offer your customers Good-Better or best.the latter Cartridge will not be cheap.

outside of a rare, chattering cartridge, i have no trouble with symmons. they are easy to fix, the same cartridge has been made for many, many years. i put some in my own home in 1984 and haven't touched them.

It's not too often that a Plumber will come across reversed H & C water lines feeding a shower/bathtub valve, I've seen but on rare ocassion, possibly because I'm mostly doing jobbing/service. I remember once I came across it with a Grohe shower valve, there was actually a replacement 'reverse' cartridge made to correct it, ($135.00, my cost), it weighed about 3 pounds.

The Delta that you're referring to has been around if it's the type I'm thinking about, the 1700 series, pressure balanced with separate volume and temperature controls, it's the only Delta valve I would recommend to my customers.

The new body replaces the 1400 and 1700 series. It will use a new cartridge that will make the valve behave like either one, and it also has a themostatic version of the 1700.

If it is a 1200 or 1225 core, remove the handle and rotate the stem 180 degrees. If it is a pressure balanced valve you have to pull the entire core and rotate it 180 degrees before reinserting it.

Is a special tool needed and does the direction of the 180 rotation matter?

Thanks, T.V.

special tool is needed only if you have to pull the stem. rotation direction shouldnt matter

It sounds like a simple fix. I'll give it a try. Thanks for all your advice.
