I tried a snake to clear the bath tub drain. The snake will go down aboout a foot then stop, I believe it is being stopped by the drainage system [flip handle to close/open drain etc].
How can i get the snake down farther? It doesn't want to budge even with force. This is in a 1940s home, the pipe is original for all i know with all others new [copper].
Does anyone have a solution? The pipe seems to be in an S shape so maybe the snake is stopping on part of it or?
Any help is appreciated!
Turbo745ti@aol.com
thanks!

Take popup flnge off above the drain one with (handle on ) and run cable down there, you might have a drum trap are a Salem bath trap in the line, is there a brass plate in the floor, one would be about 2" and other would be about 4".
Look up thse traps at www.google.com

Hi, i removed the plate with handle [2 screws holding it] off the tub, and i have to get a cable down there? I can't see anything down there and the access panel for the tub only has the water supply to the tub. Can you email me, turbo745ti@aol.com if possible? I can take a picture of what i have off the tub etc?
Your help is great,thanks again.

I always remove the overflow cover plate and snake from there. You'll have to carefully remove the trip lever and plug, snake it and reassemble. Bye bye hair!

Get a different snake. If it does not work either then there may be something lodged in the trap. Or you may just need a plumber.
